Siena in Fiore: where roses bloom

Spring is now at the door and the month of April is the right one to appreciate Tuscany and its beautiful colors in the best way. The hills become a beautiful lush green and the gardens reflect the colors of seasonal flowers. Today we want to bring you to the province of Siena to let you know some places to visit and enjoy, especially in the next month.

The story of Iris and the La Foce garden

We are in Chianciano Terme. Iris is a small child when she is taken by her mother to live in Florence. Years pass and she marries with the Marquis Origo. And that's how she decided to dedicate herself to the La Foce estate (founded in 1498 as a hostel to host the pilgrims of the Francigena). Iris does much more: carries out the reclamation work in the Val d'Orcia and establishes a hospital for children with tuberculosis. The garden, open from March to November, hosts many plants but above all many roses and many other flowers. The view overlooking the Val d'Orcia and Mount Amiata leaves you breathless. A romantic place that you can not miss.

The Horti Leonini: discover San Quirico

Our second stop takes us to one of the most charming villages of Siena: San Quirico d'Orcia. Here we find the Horti Leonini, a classic Italian garden born in 1581, divided into two parts. Many oaks and hedges of boxwood arranged in the shape of a triangle with the statue of Cosimo III de Medici. The lower part of the garden instead leads to a small area with a wonderful rose garden. The garden, owned by the Municipality, is open to the public with free entry.

The Tuscany of the gardens obviously does not end here but these two pearls will be your starting point to discover the Tuscan spring.
