Living Siena: the month of the museums

An open-air museum rich of historical buildings full of memories and story to tell but also a town with important museums that share their treasures with tourists and visitors.

Living Museums in Siena

Two museums that will live again their great historical and artistic heritage, will become the perfect scenery of events, guided visits, theater performances and children workshops. The program is really full of events, something not to miss if you are in Siena in this month. The town of Siena decided to dedicate the month of February to highlight a couple of its prestigious buildings and museums and make them the way to change the tourists’ attitude towards the town.

Throughout February, tourists and citizens can visit for free the complex of Santa Maria della Scala, the old hospital along the Via Francigena, and also the exhibition "" The body and soul. The places and the works of the hospital care in Tuscany from the fourteenth to the nineteenth century ", hosted here until March 1st. The events will also offer guided tours on Sunday from 11 am to 12.30 pm (ticket 5 Euros) and Thursdays from 15.30 to 17.

On February 1st the extraordinary Foteteca Giuliano Briganti will be open and will allow visitors to discover the photographic old technique.

Meeting Duccio di Boninsegna at the theater

On 5th February we will discover the treasures of the Archaeological Museum and on 8th February 400 works to the Museum of children's Art. On February 12, the visit will focus on the reading of the splendid frescoes of the Hall of the Pilgrims, which date back to 1400 and show how people lived and worked the hospital who welcomed pilgrims.

February 15th will be the turn of the precious relics preserved in the basement, while February 22nd is focused on the history of the Francigena. Do not miss the Museo Civico with performances of "Theatre in the Museum", where the actors of LaLut company will stage events and historical figures: from the “Podestà” to Simone Martini, from Duccio to an ancient pilgrims.
