In an enviable spot, we are right inside Porta San Marco, in the historic center, yet free from LTZ restrictions. Enjoy a stress-free arrival by leaving your car in our secure parking lot. From the hotel, all of Siena’s highlights are within walking distance: the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Art Museum, and Piazza del Campo are just 10 minutes away. Exploring Tuscany is a real pleasure: San Gimignano, Volterra, Florence and Arezzo are within easy reach by car or bus.

Getting here
From the Florence-Siena west ring road, take the Siena West exit and continue toward Porta San Marco – Duomo parking. After a short uphill stretch, enter through Porta San Marco, turn immediately left, and follow the walls. On the right, just past the traffic lights, you’ll find our free private parking lots. The hotel is located in the center, within the walls but outside the LTZ. For GPS navigators, set our parking lot address: “Via del Nuovo Asilo”, to avoid entering the city center.
Hotel Athena is 6 km from the Siena train station. We suggest guests use a taxi or contact our team to arrange a private shuttle for a smooth journey to the hotel.
The closest airports to the hotel are Florence (88 km) and Pisa (131 km). Once you land, consider renting a car or catching the train to Siena for a smooth journey.

Siena attractions
The iconic Piazza del Campo, famous for its unique shell shape, comes alive twice a year for Siena’s Palio. Here rises the Palazzo Pubblico, with its celebrated Allegory of Good and Bad Government frescoes and Mangia Tower.
Located beside the cathedral, the museum safeguards the masterpieces of the cathedral complex. Among its treasures, the renowned Maestà by Duccio di Buoninsegna and the evocative stained-glass window depicting the Assumption of the Virgin stand out.
The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. The interior showcases exceptional works of art, from Nicola Pisano’s pulpit and the 13th-century Crypt to the cathedral’s precious inlaid floor.
At the foot of the Cathedral stands the Baptistery of Saint John, dating back to the 14th century. Inside you can admire frescoes of extraordinary beauty and the Baptismal Fountain, created by Jacopo della Quercia.
The Pinacoteca Nazionale houses the largest collection of Sienese paintings from the 13th to the 17th centuries. It boasts masterpieces by Duccio di Buoninsegna, Ambrogio Lorenzetti and Domenico Beccafumi.
For centuries, the Basilica of St. Francis, an imposing Gothic masterpiece, has watched over the square that bears its name. Inside, it houses splendid works of art, including the renowned Eucharistic Miracle of 1730.
