The path goes through the magnificent façade, which is flanked by two massive towers ending with spiers of various shapes that are projected upward. Within these are inserted spiral staircases, secret because almost hidden from view of the visitors, leading to the roof of the Cathedral. When you get above the starry vaults of the aisle, you start a route reserved for small groups that shows a series of discoveries and emotions. It will be possible to walk above the holy temple and enjoy the spectacular views of 'inside' and 'outside' of the cathedral.

Lights of multicolored glass windows

The multicolored stained glass windows of Ulisse De Matteis with the representation of the Apostles, will be also opened to the visitors. From them, tourists will overlook inside the cathedral with a view of the floor of the main sculptural monuments and indoor dome with the 'Pantheon' of Siena Saints. It then runs through the gallery of the dome from which you can contemplate the high altar, the copy of the picture window of Duccio, with a central almond of the Assumption, and the sculptural masterpieces. The exterior facing you can enjoy magnificent views of the city and the surrounding Tuscan countryside.


Finally you will enter behind the statement of the facade on the terrace overlooking the Piazza del Duomo with the view of the Hospital of Santa Maria della Scala.

Tips and info

The visit to the Cathedral Attics, lasts 30 minutes, and the Cathedral with the Piccolomini Library will cost € 15,00 per person and can be made every half an hour according to the opening hours to the public of the Cathedral (last strip available an hour before closing).

The ticket will provide access to groups of a maximum of 18 people accompanied by security personnel. Each visitor will receive a free the Roof Map, a useful tool for carrying out the visit that becomes gadget to take home, after finishing the tour and available in the following languages: Italian, English, French, German, Spanish and Russian.
